VOB is MPEG. MPEG-2, actually. Extensions don't matter in *nix world. They
do in Windows, so you may name your files to suit your needs, but it
doesn't change their contents.

Of course it can.

This is wrong. There's no need to remux, and current MPEG muxer is somewhat
buggy.
