Well, when I tried it I didn't really get what I would call "working"...
If the PC really is too slow the result seems to be rather unusable, at
least that was my experience...

Yes, of course. I meant quality compared to the quality you get after a
dropped frame is not much worse - it is a lot worse compared to normal
playback of course...
You can still use -framedrop, it helps a lot on my slower PC (PII 233),
displaying the frame needs more CPU time than decoding it with MPEG2.
And if it's just because you want to do something in the background you
should consider playing with priorities a bit ;-)
