[MPlayer-users] mplayer refuses to start on my computer

my distro is debian woody with some backports including KDE3.1.4
i started getting this problem after i tried unsuccessfully to upgrade
libvorbis. 
i started getting an error:

mplayer: /lib/libc.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.3' not found (required by
/usr/lib/libvorbis.so.0)

so i downloaded the sources and built my own mplayer package with the
environmental variable DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS set to: 

--enable-gui --enable-dvdnav --prefix=/usr

has anyone else had this problem? what can i do to make this problem go
away?
