No its not. This thread is about how low a bitrate is good enough so as
not to distinguish from the original. How low is a purely subjective
argument. The thread has gone completely south however and has deviated
fromt his point.

I have. I can pick out a 96khz vorbis khz stream from a 44.1khz 16 bit
stream every time. Thats all I care about.

Secondly, I have never once taken that tone with you in our discussion.
I take offense to you labeling me a self-proclaimed audiophile. I've
written a good bit of code in the field, a chunk of it which is
opensource and is available on sourceforge.

You can believe what you want about me, but at least I have the code to
backup my ascertations on my qualifications.

What have you written recently? (If you are one of the main mplayer
developers, I've jsut inserted foot in mouth :)

No its not. Its subjective. I personally think $10k on an home
entratainment system is steep. I think $3k for audio and $2.5-$3k for
video gets you great quality for a reasonable price. Again, this is for
your main home system, so milage may vary.
