True that codec is fine for that environment.

Lets face facts though. That signal in that environment doesnt sound as
good, at least to me, as a clean signal in a good environment. If it
did, I could jsut buy a $100 white noise generator, plug it in at home,
buy a $20 boombox, and I'd have great home theater sound. It doesnt work
like that.

I completely agree that if you don't have the hardware, an over the top
codec just inst worth it. I never tried to say otherwise. This whole
thread is about producing really good transcodings of a mpeg2 stream at
a lower bitrate with no perceived loss. (Damn my spelling is bad). My
assumption of studio quality playback might be off. I'll admit that. But
I'd also assert that making good copies one must also recognize that if
you do have good equipment, you are going to need a higher bitrate, and
in that instance, 96k vorbis jsut doesnt cut it.

Don't get me started with windows codecs/DRM and all the crap windows is
trying to push down our throats with the next DVD spec.
