[MPlayer-users] fullscreen playback

hi all,
i'm running mplayer 1.0pre3-2.95.4 on a debian woody linux, and i'm
having trouble with fullscreen playback: say i open a video file, the
playback window defaults to the actual size of the video, say 320x200,
for example. when i hit the maximize button (or toggle "fullscreen" via
menu), the video window maximizes, but the actual video remains the same
size - the rest of the window is just "padded" with a black background.
what am i doing wrong?
another question: when i ran configure by hand, i noticed that the
script said "dvdread" input was disabled... there seems to be no
configure switch to enable dvdread.
my system is an athlon xp 2800, with an ati radeon 9800 pro. i'm running
a 2.4.18 kernel, xfree 4.1.0, and i have the ati firegl driver installed
(version 3.2.8).
thanks in advance for help or suggestions.
matthias
