[MPlayer-users] no sound with QuickTime

I just installed mplayer for the first time and have a couple of problems.
I'll mention one for now: no sound.

OS: Red Hat Enterprise WS3
MPlayer-1.0pre4, compiled from source
Codecs downloaded and installed:
  essential-20040427.tar.bz2
  qt6dlls.tar.bz2
  qtextras.tar.bz2

I tried to play a QuickTime video. The video was fine, but there was no
sound. I got several errors, two of which look relevant:

Cannot find codec for audio format 0x0.
  Audio: no sound

In general, sound is working on this machine. The Linux "play" command, for
example, successfully plays a WAV file.

I would be grateful for suggestions on how to resolve the problem. Thanks.
