[MPlayer-users] Metadata in the NUT format

Hello,
I have a question about this new NUT format. I'm not a developer myself, so I ask it here on mplayer-users.
I don't know if you are aiming for just audio+video together, or if it can as well hold only audio.
If the latter, I'd like to check this before the spec may be locked.

What abilities does NUT have to send metadata in a flexible manner in live streams? Like mp3-over-http often displays name of artist and song currently played. Though I guess that's all it can be for mp3, whereas other data would be useful too, like "name of show", "what is today's show about", "who is hosting", "when did this show begin and end".
Any unique data wouldn't have to be transmitted twice. However, whenever a client connects to the server it needs to get all the current data that has already been sent to hooked up clients. I guess this could mean a proxy problem.

Maybe some of these data would be better as part of a web service, where the client has to fetch it by itself only if needed. But for others it's impossible, naturally a client cannot know when a song or show is finished, thus it would have to query the web service continuosly.
Of course, this would also require an advanced server solution, but what is the capability with focus on the NUT format?
