This would have been an good place to put a link for people like me who 
can't remember it and maybe missed it.

No wonder, it's a bit hard to fix something like this if neither have 
debugging info nor experience the problem yourself.
Not to mention that there are two patches pending that _might_ fix the 
problem, and no response on them (see 
http://bugzilla.mplayerhq.hu/show_bug.cgi?id=54, although that describes 
a problem with wmv9dmod.dll it might be the same).
