Don't use the old frameno 3 pass. Since you plan to do the sound
separately anyway it would be pointless. You could use the new 3 (or
more) pass video encoding to squeeze a little bit more quality into
your space.

Calculate after encoding the sound.

You might want to look into -vf eq or eq2.
