try this.
chmod 777 -R /home/*
if you still cant use mplaye then try this.
dl the cvs or even a release source code.
compile it using
mkdir /home/www/source_compile
./configure --prefix=/home/www/source_compile
make
make install
run mplayer using /home/www/source_compile/bin/mplayer

then report.
