[MPlayer-users] Recording segments of a movie

How can I record certain segments of a movie? I have gone through the 
man page and haven't found what I need. Which isn't to say that it's not
there, maybe I just don't know what to look for.  :)

Someone before suggested using the Avidemux program, but every time
I have used that to try and split avi's I have ended up with the
audio out of sync with the video.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
