Jep, that's the problem. It is too new, MPlayer pre6 cannot work with
it correctly at least in this case.
MPlayer was never supposed to be used with dynamic libavcodec (also due
to speed reasons).

In case you want to contact him and he doesn't intend to do a CVS
package, at least this patch is needed:

I and most other developers would be much happier though if he'd link
libavcodec statically into MPlayer - also for speed reasons.
