[MPlayer-users] best format to grab dv

i have some videos on a dv camera that i want to transfer to the computer
and then encode to dvd format, possibly also to mpeg4.

i have many questions, but the first one is: which is the most convenient
format to grab the video into for later encoding with mencoder? dvgrab
allows dv1, dv2 and raw, but i don't have criteria to choose one.

help or hints would be greatly appreciated.
