Have you tried all the different -ao alsa: options, such as no_block and mmap?  Also, it is -ao not "-oa" as you keep typing.  Hope you normally get it right.

Then use "-srate 44100", and see if that solves your problem.  If you've got some cheap on-board sound, it wouldn't surprise me.

The solution to your problem is to use "-ao oss" as oss support just works better, and oss emulation with alsa works fine too.
