I'd convert it the same way I convert everything else. My suggestion  
is to use either XviD (if it's on your system) or lavc's mpeg-4  
codec. Both are very good. After that, it's just selecting your  
bitrate and all those other fun toys. Read the MAN page or  
documentation for more information.

Well, watch the video. See if you can tell where those extra eight  
pixels are. Then just crop them out. It's not hard at all, just use - 
vf crop. Again, read the MAN page or documentation for more information.

High bitrate (approximately half of the MPEG-2 TS, I'd say, about 1.5  
MBit, but many people use around 700-800 Kbits, which gives you  
something about the size of a CD at 1:30 in length). As far as audio,  
your call. Use Vorbis instead of MP3 if that's an option, but also  
consider FLAC is size isn't an option. I guess this all depends on  
your needs really.
