Yes, even with VBR it's easy to guess the final bitrate within a tiny
margin of error.

File headers are tiny and irrelevant, but overhead is not. For AVI,
allow 24 bytes per frame. This includes audio frames, of which there
are about 38 frames per second at 44100 hz.
