And 4. I bought The 4400 NTSC disc to play with mplayer here ahead of 
release. I agree with Ergzay that the stations use heavy equipment to bring 
the picture up to broadcast quality. I'm used to tweak brightness and 
contrast during discs. For as long as mplayer has had the settings at 1-2, 
3-4 and 4-5 I've used these.

What I tried to achieve is a setting that can be kept for all uses of the 
machine if there ever is one. I'm almost there but when mplayer stops the 
desktop is incredibly 'white' and washed out. There are a couple pages 
saying this isn't an exact math.
