[MPlayer-users] no on-the-fly resolution switching?

Hello,

A DVB-T channel (ARTE) I watch switches to a higher resolution (with
16:9 aspect) when broadcasting a movie or documentary, however mplayer
doesn't detect it and displays a stretched image (restarting mplayer
show the correct resolution). By contrast VLC does switch on-the-fly to
the correct resolution and aspect ratio.

Is there an option to enable that behavior in mplayer?
