You need to use "-lavcopts autoaspect".  Or if intend to play on other
players that might not support MPEG-4 aspect ratios, you can add -vf
scale=-1:-2 to expand the video to square pixels.  

Also, you should read the mplayer docs to figure out better options. 
vhq is depreciated in favor of mbd=2, and other options like trell/v4mv
are very common now.
