Can you give us the command line you use? Perhaps we can find out
what's going on there.

I assume you're talking about recording.

LAVC is generally preferred over DivX 4. DivX 4 is pretty out of
date, seeing as the latest binaries of DivX is version 6. LAVC also
tends to produce better output quality. However, XviD is preferred
over LAVC in many cases. With your XviD encoding line, you might want
to drop "pass=1" seeing as that was meant for two-pass encoding.
