Standard Slackware 10.0 install, with only very minor changes.

That would be my guess as well.  It could also be that I'm using a 2.4
kernel, while you are using 2.6.

They're just TV-card captures...  4Mbit MPEG-2 video (NTSC: 720x480
interlaced), with 384kbit 2ch MP2 audio. You could use a DVB stream,  or
dump a DVD to disk (and re-encode the audio to MP2).
