Sorry, but I'm not very experienced with Debian based distros.  I know 
that I had to install the DirectFB package under openSuSE to get the 
direct framebuffer driver.  However, I have a hard enough time figuring 
out why this works and that doesn't.  On my thinkpad 390X, if I play an 
XviD, the xv driver fails, but if I play a different type of .avi it 
works just fine.  No idea why......There's a lot to Mplayer and 
MenCoder that I haven't been able to figure out yet.....
