I had installed the rpms (xvidcore-1.1.0-0.lvn.1.4.i386.rpm,
libXvMCW-0.9.3-2.i386.rpm). Then I had deflated that archives (
essential-20060611.tar.bz2, font-arial-iso-8859-2.tar.bz2) and put them in
there places.

But when I tried to install the rpms

mplayer-1.0pre8-1.i386.rpm

mencoder-1.0pre8-1.i386.rpm

mplayer-codecs-20060611-1.i386.rpm

mplayer-codecs-extra-20060611-1.i386.rpm

mplayer-gui-1.0pre8-1.i386.rpm

They did not installs and show the dependency problem of

libtheora.so.0 and libmp3lame.so.0

which despite detailed search on the website http://www.mplayerhq.hu/

so I downloaded the source MPlayer-1.0pre8.tar.bz2 and installed it. After
its installation I still can't install those rpms. I want gui plus codecs
for dat file format.

In windows there is windows media player in c:\windows\system32\mplay32.exe.
Although its is an Microsoft player and if I am not wrong the .dat file
format is also of Microsoft that player did not plays those movies of .dat
file extension.

Its is correct that if I would change only the extension from .dat to avi or
asx or what ever then that player would play it. (Just changing the file
extension, not converting from one file format to another). (Yes other
players of windows (mplayer2, wmplayer) does play the .dat)

It seems that mplayer (Linux) had the same problem. I.e. just changing the
file extension does the trick.

But there is the problem most of the movies are on the CD. And there are two
problems.

   1. Coping again and again from CD. Is impossible.
   2. I usually do not have much disk space lying around, not to say any
thing about the time required in coping the 500 Mb.

So can some one please help me?

Is there decodes available for .dat file format movies?

Or can I some how say to mplayer that take .dat movies to as .avi movies?

Thanks andres restrepo <ars662001 at yahoo.com> for the sites from where to
download the libraries (lame-3.97b2.tar.gz, libtheora-1.0alpha7). I had
installed both but still when I starts to install the rpms. They stopped and
because of the dependencies. Although I had installed the libtheora.so.0 and
there is and symbolic link of libtheora.so.0 in the /usr/lib/libtheora.so.0
(to the libtheora.so.0.1 ), it still says that there is libtheora.so.0(
libtheora.so.1) dependency error.
