Why did you download the codecs and fonts tarballs?
With RPMs, they're not necessary.

OK, looks like people just have to get everything on a silver platter.
I've updated the Requirements page on the RPMs website.

libtheora is on your distro CDs/DVD or you can get an updated version from
my website.

lame is in Livna.

It's hard to believe. MPlayer playes files based on their contents, not their
filenames.

RPM doesn't know anything about files you install outside its control, hence
the missing dependency despite the actual file being in the correct place.
IOW: you have to install an RPM with the correct library for other RPMs
to "see" it.
