In general all kind of software needs libdvdcss in order to decrypt encrypted
dvd. MPlayer has an internal copy of libdvdcss and it doesn't need an external
libdvdcss (unless it is compiled with libdvdnav support, in such case also
MPlayer needs an external libdvdcss)

Could it be that you need to set the region of the dvd drive?
