[MPlayer-users] RE: Mencoder codec location

Henry, thanks again for your assistance.
When I said that I had compared the two sources of codecs,
I guess I should have said that I was doing a directory diff
that let me see th size of the .dlls, and their datetimestamps
in the two directories produced after unzipping, or un-taring
any compressed file in which the material had been downloaded.
So, when I say that the codecs directory exists in the proper place
and the sought-after codec is, in fact, found in that directory, it
is really true.
Sorry to take up so much of everyone's time on what is surely
going to turn out to be a silly problem on my part. I promise to
report back to the newsgroup when I finally am able to get
the .wmv file converted to .avi. The failure symptom is
consistent when I go to a variety of players, including a variety
of different downloads from the basic mplayer home site.
The audio track plays properly, but there is no video even on
PC-based hosts, much less getting the Flip4Mac support in
QuickTime to get it right. At least on a box running DirectX,
maybe Joey and John's suggestion that this dll must be
registered via Windows rather than just resident in the sub-
directory, will turn out to be the missing link. Thanks.
