[MPlayer-users] how to correct bad fps value?

Hi all,
I'm trying to fix a dvd rip that I have. When I play the rip file the
audio is way off sync. mplayer says that the file is 29.97 fps, but if
I play it with "-fps 24.344" it plays fine. I've tried re-ripping the
dvd without any success.
I've been trying to fix this by running mencoder to modify the frame
rate, but every time I do it destroys the video quality. Here's the
command I'm trying to run:
mencoder -fps 24.344 -ofps 24.344 -oac copy -ovc copy -o fix.avi \
-audiofile audio.mp3 badfps.avi
What am I doing wrong? mencoder keeps reporting that it is skipping
frames, but even if I add -noskip it keeps doing it. I don't want
mencoder to do anything to the frames, just change the rate. Everywhere
else I look to change the fps, it keeps the video length the same by
adding/dropping frames, but I want to change the length and keep the
frame count the same and just down the fps. If mplayer can play it with
just "-fps xxxx", shouldn't mencoder be able to do something similar,
without distorting the video?
Thanks for your help,
Chris
