I'm using :
MEncoder 1.0rc1-3.4.2 (C) 2000-2006 MPlayer Team
CPU: AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2800+ (Family: 6, Model: 10, Stepping: 0)
CPUflags: Type: 6 MMX: 1 MMX2: 1 3DNow: 1 3DNow2: 1 SSE: 0 SSE2: 0
Compiled with runtime CPU detection.

on a Windows XP sp2 PC in the UK and having a little trouble with converting
some uncompressed video to MPEG2 format for putting on a DVD.

The videos are
308x542 and 352x576 both around 35-45GB.
and I tried the following to convert them to 720x576 mpeg2

mencoder "r:\raw\video1.avi" -oac lavc -ovc lavc -of mpeg -mpegopts
format=dvd -vf scale=720:576,harddup -srate 48000 -af lavcresample=48000
-lavcopts
vcodec=mpeg2video:vrc_buf_size=1835:vrc_maxrate=9800:vbitrate=5000:keyint=15:aspect=4/3:acodec=ac3:abitrate=192
-ofps 25 -o video.mpg

I got a error about the -vf scale option and it suggests using a different
scale option.
The output video is only about the first 5 minutes before it stops.

I tried using -vf scale:pal but that seems not to work.

Any advise for a first time user?

It's probably my fault.... :-)
