Ask your package maintainer for help then. Third-party packages are not
supported here if they've been modified.

MPlayer running as user should not be able to hang/crash your system.
If it does, then there's a problem with your system, not with MPlayer.

We only (try to) diagnose MPlayer problems. This is not a general Linux
support list.

It's trivial to capture MPlayer output to a file, for example (in bash):
mplayer -v file.wmv 2>&1 | tee mplayer.log

Comments like that won't make us more inclined to help you. At least with
open-source, you don't have to pay for an upgrade, so don't sweat it.
