-dumpstream dumps the stream. In DVDs, a lot of global information about the
titles is not in the stream itself (which, AFAIK, does not have global
headers), but in the IFO files, which act as global headers. This global
information includes chapters points, mapping between language and audio and
subtitles streams, and subtitles palette.
If you try to play a VOB obtained from a DVD with -dumpstream, you can
overlay the subtitles with the -sud option, but the -slang option and the j
command will not work, and the colors will probably be all wrong.
