Hi,

You may be looking at the last frame of the previous file played. A lot of 
players seem to have this problem - possibly it's a bug/feature/whatever in 
the graphics card driver that doesn't cause the overlay buffer to be filled 
with black once playback is over. I solved this by having mplayer reduce 
both brightness and saturation to the minimum allowed (either 0 or -100, 
can't recall) which will make any video full black, or very nearly so.
