Actually it was compiler flags, /proc tweaks, and other wisdom I was 
after, as I'm not too familiar with the 2.6 kernel and how it affects 
mplayer. ;)

Look at the numbers. The semperon system is over five years old. A 16Mb 
AGP x4 graphics card outperforms a PCI-E x16 with 1Gb ram. Even under 
Windows! (Games and 3D not included in this) Now, I'm used to having to 
hack the software around to get things to work, but in this case xv 
should be running by default what, about 100 times faster? At the very 
least not 100 times slower!
No, really if this is what an upgrade gets me then the next computer I 
buy will be 10 years from now rather then 5.
I think we are getting sold alot of junk.
