gnome-mplayer can do this quit easily...

Open two instances of gnome-mplayer and then use dbus to tell both
instances what file to open...

dbus-send  --type=signal / com.gnome.mplayer.Open
string:'/home/kdekorte/Videos/TheHunt.divx'

They should be quite close insync as well.
