Indeed, that feature would be useful in many situations, for reviewing,
for selecting the best frame to take a screenshot of, for finding errors
etc.

If the problem with adding the feature is unwanted code or processing
overhead, then here's my proposal:

-vf reverseSteps

Add a command-line option for frame-by-frame backwards stepping.
