[MPlayer-users] configure to non defaults file structure

I use Puppy Linux (Lucid Puppy 5.2). It is one of those mini distro's.
One of those who run in RAM. Super user is the only user and the home
dir is /root.

The mplayer that came with Lucid Puppy 5.2 could as far as I could see
not find its own config file in /root/.mplayer in each case there was
none of the changes I made to this file that seems to have no effect
on MPlayer output. Moreover, it seemed as if it was not compiled with
support for TrueType fonts. In each case there was no font changes
though I installed some TrueType fonts and tried to call them from a
command line.

mplayer -utf8 -font /root/.fonts/DejaVuSansMono.ttf 00-fors.avi

So I decided to try to compile my own mplayer/mencoder from SVN

I've done before but it still does not work to solve my problems

Configure choose default these directories,

Install prefix: /usr/local
Data directory: /usr/local/share/mplayer
Config direct.: /usr/local/etc/mplayer

but it does not fit properly with Puppy Linux file structure.

In Puppy Linux, it would be better.

Install prefix: /usr/
Data directory: /usr/ well I am unsure here.
Config direct.: /usr/etc/mplayer

How can I tell "configure" that?

The next thing is do I tell mplayer how to find its config file in
/root/.mplayer. Or somewhere else. I do not care as long as I can get
it to work.

And the last is how do I get mplayer to find my TrueType fonts so it
can be compiled with TrueType font support, and I can get some
TrueType fonts to work with subtitles. The fonts are installed in
/root/.fonts but of course can be moved or symbolic-link them or
whatever it takes.

Thanks for your attention
Mikkel
