(Not just codecs and encoders for audio and video but 
also file formats and many other things.)

The important thing is that the OP used "vcodec=mpeg4" 
in his example command line so he was always talking 
about MPEG-4 Part 2 ASP, never about any other part of 
the (very large) standard.
