Unlike fourcc, they're not sane, in that:

- they're not actually unique. conflicting ones have already been
  assigned by idiots.
- non-uniqueness stems from having too small of a namespace for
  numerous parties to be able to individually assign ids and from the
  lack of any logical (e.g. human-language) correspondence between the
  numbers and the codecs.
- how the hell is an ungoverned community supposed to arrive at
  consensus on a meaningless number?

Quicktime and other formats already have fourcc for audio so it's best
to just pull from there. Then the fourcc's can be shared just like
with video.
