Try ffmpeg, I also heard that mp1e is supposed to turn out fast
results.

It can be MPEG1 system stream or MPEG2 program stream and also just a
MPEG1 or MPEG2 PES without SCR information.

The Athlon should be fast enough, but it always depends on the
resolution you are going for.
