actually 'cat file | mencoder ... -' should do that.
anwyay i've never tested it with >800mb files, so i don'y know.
but in stream (stdin etc) mode the demuxers ignore sizes and uses teh EOF
signal only. so unles syour avi has bugs/error at 1020MB it should play to
the end. of course, no seeking this way...
