Yeah, actually it's quite an idea ;)

A filter to put in the filtering chain. Something like bounds=w:h:x:y:l
that would draw the rectangle, preferrably like "- - - - -" with dashes
(and spaces) of length l, so one could see exactly if something is above
or below the line.

That would be great.
