Try -vo xv. This will decrease framedrop if it was caused by scaling 
(like playing in fullscreen mode). Maybe it's your slow CPU or 
whatever (i have no MPEG1 files so can't say this for sure.... but i 
have 400MHz Celeron and play most DivX smoothly)

What video card do you have? Have you installed a recent driver?
