[MPlayer-users] -vo vesa:vidix not working although xvidix does

i happen to have the same problem, when i try to use one of the 1.0pre
versions. the drivers are all being built and mplayer claims not to find the
chip. very annoying. when compiling the older 0.9.x versions i have my
vesa:vidix back.
also here any help would be greatly appreciated.
