-really-quiet does not ignore the messages, i guess it should be fixed.

also does -vc ffmpeg12 play quicker/better for you?
also report mplayer output use -v as it tells us more information.

er, mplayer has software scaling with -sws. check the manual for more info

in the mplayerhq.hu/DOCS/tech/wishlist is DX accelerated like xvmc , maybe 
thats what you want ;\
