[MPlayer-users] a bug? - avi from image files!

hello,
i tried to create a movie from a set of images and mecoder seems to work ok,
but the resulting video is noisy, full of weird colors and stripes.

what may be wrong? (if you want to take a look at the movie, please download 
it from the url http://www.ucl.cas.cz/~petr/misc/test.avi. it's size is about 200k
which exceeds the limits of this list.)

three possible causes come on my mind:
1) i am using wrong or incomplete parameters 
2) the particular jpeg image format is not supported
3) my instalation of mencoder is broken
4) there is a bug in mencoder

i have tried to:
1) read mencoder's documentation and search the net - no success
2) another jpeg image and even png image - no success
(see the source image http://www.ucl.cas.cz/~petr/misc/leafdrops.jpg)
3) reinstall mencoder to the latest version 0.92 - no success
4) look for the bug in the sources - no success, too complex code. 

what should i try next??? i'd be very grateful for any suggestion!

(ps. i enclose also a sample output from the mencoder. it is not from the newest 
mencoder, which i run on another machine home.)
