Well actually it can, simply by not exiting, but I don't think that's what
our correspondent really wants (please correct me if I'm wrong).
If you want something to sit on black at the end of a file, there are a
number of ways to do it. You can put some black on the end of the file, or
create a black file for the end of a playlist. You can manually hit pause,
or you can go into slave mode and send slave commands. You should
investigate the "-idle" option, too.
You can actually create black and silence by setting up a file to play with
zero volume, brightness and saturation, in some video modes. Look into
setting what sort of video output and video filtering setups to use.
